A FORMER policeman was yesterday jailed for 14 months after pleading guilty to seven charges of prostitution, running a brothel out of his apartment and pimping.
Another man, Christos Lambrianos, also faced similar charges and was jailed for eight months.
George Savvas Georgiou, a 28-year-old former special constable, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty after initially denying any wrongdoing. His accomplice, 25-year-old Christos Lambrianos, also changed his pea in the hearing yesterday.
Last January, Nicosia CID investigators had told a Nicosia Court that they had raided an apartment in the Strovolos and found Georgiou and Lambrianos performing a sex act in the bedroom in the presence of the woman.
Arresting officers soon discovered that one of the men was none other than a colleague stationed at the Nicosia police headquarters.
Moldovan national Oksana Valierevna Roska, the woman present in the room, is also facing prostitution charges but has pleaded not guilty to some of the charges and her trial is continuing.
Further investigations revealed that the two men would post advertisements in the pink section of a free newspaper, saying that they would meet other people for group sex regardless of their gender.
According to State Prosecutor Margarita Avraamidou, the whistle was blown on the two men when a disgruntled man went and informed police that the two men were prostituting two women.
Sentencing the two men yesterday, Judge Alexandros Panayiotou said, “A witness had gone to the apartment of the two men for the purpose of sex. After making love to a woman called Carmen he paid £70 to the first defendant (Georgiou). He then heard the first defendant tell the woman that he would give her £40.
“After having sex, a woman came into the room called Oksana. The first defendant asked the man if he wanted to have sex with her for another £30. An argument then followed because the man felt cheated, telling police officers later that Oksana was nicer than Carmen.”
Police later raided the apartment where they found Georgiou, Lambrianos and Roska performing a sex act in one of the bedrooms.
During questioning, Lambrianos and Georgiou had said that they had rented one of the rooms to Roska and Carmen because they needed money.
They later confessed to earning money from her sexual acts as well.
“The seriousness of the crime”, continued Judge Panayiotou “does not allow the court to impose a punishment other than imprisonment for the two defendants.”
