So, it might not be snowing outside but it’s that time of year when the slightly chilly nights call for one vital accessory: a blanket. We’ve done our research and come up with seven of the best.
Marks and Spencer Home
This store just keeps getting better. Overwhelmed by their range of bedding, I came across these blankets, which are also the cheapest of the seven, making them outstanding value. This isn’t really your average heavy, crochet blanket; it’s a fleece, light yet soft and couch-friendly reminiscent of a throw. Available in white and camel.
Price: £9.50
Panstromasew
I had heard of this shop before and knew it specialised in anything a bedroom and bed could need. There was a limited range of blankets but nevertheless, I was amazed to discover these. Available in amazing, warm colours, it was extremely easy to imagine myself curled on a couch with one of these 100% acrylic blankets. With a fine, check detail to them, the approachable price makes them a winner.
Price: £28
Zara Home
When I first set out to find blankets, I had an image in my mind of a heavy, hand crocheted, multi-coloured version. I found the exact thing in Zara Home. This one is perhaps the most gorgeous one of the lot and wrapping up in it is a dream. I tried it out one night on my couch with a hot chocolate and moaned at the absence of a Christmas tree that would make the moment picture perfect. 50 per cent acrylic and 50 per cent cotton, this is a pricey one but it is the ultimate blanket.
Price: £72.50
Gevorest
Another store specialising in bedding, Gevorest is the place to go if you want the best in blankets. This specific range, Kentia, has injected a happy feeling into their blankets through a splash of colour. You could even say there’s a sense of psychedelia to them with the phosphorus pink, blue, green and orange but that doesn’t mean they’re all show. Soft, big and cushy, the material is a mixture of acrylic and polyester.
Price: £63 for single and £79 for double
Xinaris
Xinaris furniture store is quite popular in Cyprus and is famous for its modern designs, so I figured there would definitely be something worth mentioning. And, I was right. I stumbled across these gorgeous blankets, which looked like the most ideal couch blankets yet, to be honest if it weren’t for the modern pink and blue shades, I would’ve sworn that they had been woven or knitted by a yiayia. 100 per cent acrylic but maybe a bit pricey.
Price: £47
Trokkoudes and Kyros
If you’re into names and brands, I’m gathering that having a Benetton blanket on your couch or bed, would fit just fine. Trokkoudes and Kyros stock these colourful blankets, which are apparently extremely popular. Available in orange, red and yellow, the blankets are made of acrylic and polyester with a trim of the Benetton name. You may cringe when faced with the price but something tells me that this would make a very good investment as the quality felt amazing.
Price: £67
Patari
An aunt of mine told me to check this place out, telling me all about a wonderful blanket she picked up last year. Although my aunt’s specific blanket was not available anymore, these bright and colourful ones were. Not exactly what you would curl up with on your couch as they are more bed blankets but one of these is guaranteed to keep you warm all winter. 100 per cent acrylic but cheap and worth it.
