Internet TV brings Cyprus to the world

CYPRUS ITV, a 24-hour station broadcasting over the internet and available across the globe, has been upgraded and enriched after its launch back in March.

CITV is offering new packages for an effective presentation and advertisement of the island’s services and products, along with services for the upgrading of web pages with the hosting of films, all without downloading.

The ethos at CITV is quite simple: the promotion of Cyprus to the world, with the island being the first country to have its own internet-based TV station.

The upgrade accommodates three new channels: ‘London TV’ presents informative films on restaurants, theatres, bars and clubs in the British capital, ‘High TV’ presents a variety of extreme worldwide sports and ‘Land Rover TV’, a co-operation with the Discovery channel, presents subjects of international interest, through the lenses of Discovery.

CITV has created various portals in an effort to bring the channel closer to the everyday life of locals and visitors, covering subjects such as fashion, politics, music news, sport, travel, and cuisine.

CITV has also announced a co-operation with two other internet channels. ‘Holiday TV’ and ‘Real Estate TV’, and will soon also reveal details of a cooperation with certain sports clubs in Cyprus in a common effort to broadcast certain football matches live on the internet.

At the World Travel Market ten days ago, CITV revealed that it is teaming up with First Choice Holidays to broadcast weddings.

John Boughton, Head of Product Development at First Choice said: “Cyprus is a very popular destination for weddings and honeymoons with our customers, therefore we are delighted to be the first tour operator to be broadcasting weddings live via the internet and we hope that this trial, which will focus on weddings in Paphos and Ayia Napa, will be a great success.

“All customers who have booked a wedding in 2007 will be contacted to be made aware of this service.”

Steve Collins, Managing Director, of CITV added: “This is a major leap forward using the most advanced technology, so relatives and friends anywhere in the world that were unable to attend can click and watch the video ceremony on demand.

“This is a unique concept and a valuable service to tourism and another world first for Cyprus.”

While the new generation turns away from television, radio and newspapers towards online services, online advertising incomes worldwide have tripled in relation to radio advertising and doubled in relation to television.

Concept development manager Paris Christofides told the Mail: “We believe that CITV is our window to the world. For the first time, Cypriot culture, business and leisure activities are exposed to the world on a constant basis. The channel will bring to us new outlooks on ourselves as the people of Cyprus.”
