Cocktail of the week with Fabrizio Musorella

Pink Gin

The Pink Gin – an aperitif that could easily be tagged “Made in England” – was first introduced in the early 70s by officers of the Royal Navy. Gin was a big favourite at the time, along with rum, and was even added to the officer’s medicine kit. This was because gin mixed with bitters was used against stomach upsets or for depression, with Angostura considered medicinal. Plymouth Gin, besides being one of the oldest distilleries in England, was probably the first gin to be used for this recipe as the Royal Navy was then based in Plymouth. In the recent past the Pink Gin could be considered an alternative to a classic Martini Cocktail. Salute!
