Keravnos Cyprus College survives early scare

PANAYIOTIS TRISOKKAS and Giorgos Anastasiadis each had 22 points to lift Keravnos Cyprus College over Intercollege ETHA 84-66 in the first round game on Sunday night in Eleftheria Indoor Arena.

Intercollege ETHA opened the game with a good offensive rhythm and the cup holders were forced to trail by four or more points throughout the first two quarters, ending the first half with a six point deficit 46-40.

Early in the third period Intercollege ETHA’s centers Nikola Jovanovic and Quincy Davis found themselves in foul trouble so Kyriakos Yiangoullis had to substitute them to keep them available for the final quarter.

Keravnos Cyprus College created an 11-0 run which was enough to completely turn the game around and set the Strovolos side on a course to victory. Intercollege ETHA was limited to only five points in the third quarter and trailed by seven going into the final quarter, 51-58.

Early in the fourth quarter both foul-troubled centers got fouled out after some good defense by Keravnos Cyprus College’s Zelimir Stevanovic and the game was practically decided 66-84 the final score.

Cyrill Makanda scored 21 point for Keravnos Cyprus College, while the national team center Panayiotis Trisokkas had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Panos Serdaris led Intercollege ETHA with 18 points, while Quincy Davis and Dejan Becin had 12 and 11 points respectively.

In the other matches of the first round, Frederick Achilleas Kaimakliou defeated Hassapis Omonoia 87-62, while YDRA Asphalistiki ENAD topped Pizza Express Apollon 84-79.
