Murder weapon found in Panteli case

LIMASSOL police yesterday located the gun they believed was used to murder 41-year old Roulla Panteli.

The gun, a Magnum, with eight bullets in the cartridge, were found in a while plastic bag with a stone placed on top in a field off the Limassol-Fasoulas road.

Police said they were given the location by 45-year old suspect in the case Christakis Gavriel who was remanded for a further eight days yesterday on suspicion of his involvement in the killing.

Panteli’s body was found on October 15 by a hunter in a remote area of Limassol. The woman who had been missing for two weeks had been shot twice in the back of the head.

Police will now run DNA tests on the gun to establish if it was the murder weapon.

Police prosecutors have told the court that Gavriel had borrowed substantial amounts of money from Panteli. On one occasion, she had given him some £10,000 so he could pay off a fine for illegally importing vehicles.

In a second incidence she had loaned Gavriel £27,000 to help him open a bakery. In return, the suspect promised her a share in the investment.

However, police believe that at some point Panteli felt she was being conned and wanted her money back and the two had a falling out.
