Suspected drug dealer in custody

POLICE have arrested and remanded in custody a suspected drug dealer after he reportedly admitted to owning 400 grams of cannabis that were seized from a field in the Strovolos area of Nicosia.

According to Drug Squad Constable Marios Charalambous, officers had received a tip-off saying that a large amount of drugs was hidden in a nylon bag situated in a certain area in Strovolos.

Inside the bag, officers discovered 31 smaller bags containing a total of 400 grams of cannabis.

“Witnesses say that they saw a suspicious looking car in the area so we traced the car back to the suspect Marios Georgiou. He was arrested shortly afterwards and he told us that the drugs were his and he had recently bought them off another man who did not want to name,” said Charalambous.

Further investigations, continued Charalambous, revealed that the suspect had bought 500g of cannabis for a fee of £3,500 and that he had already sold around 100g.

Police are set to charge the suspect with drug dealing, illegal possession of drugs with intent to sell and illegal possession of drugs.

The constable then pleaded with Judge Lemonia Kaoutzani to allow the investigators to keep the suspect in remand for four days in light of the preliminary investigation.

The judge agreed “in light of the strong case that, at least at this stage, appears to connect the suspect to the crime.”
