A YOUNG woman from the Larnaca village of Klavdia yesterday lost her life in the 54th road death this year so far.
Angela Christoforou, 35, was driving on the Kofinou-Larnaca highway early yesterday morning when she crashed into a car ahead of her, which under unknown circumstances had come to a stop on the road.
The 35-year-old was killed on impact, while the 27-year-old driving the other car was injured and taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where she was kept in for treatment.
Aradhippou police are investigating the reasons why the 27-year-old’s car was stopped in the middle of the highway.
Also in the early hours of yesterday morning , a young man was seriously injured after he lost control of his car on Ayios Panteleimonas Road in Parlalimni.
Under unknown circumstances, the 25-year-old crashed into the roadside barrier and was hurled into the air and into a nearby field – hitting four olive branches before he landed. His car then flew onto the roof of an abandoned car before coming to a halt under a tree – a full 31 metres from the point where he lost control of his car.
The Fire Services arrived at the scene and pulled the 25-year-old free from the wreckage. He was then taken to Paralimni Hospital where his arm and leg injuries were deemed that serious, he had to be transferred to Larnaca General Hospital.
Paralimni police are investigating the reasons behind the accident.
And on Thursday night, a 59-year-old man and his wife, 64, were seriously injured, when he lost control of his car on the Limassol- Platres road at around 8.30pm and crashed into the road barriers. In his attempt to regain control of the vehicle, he swerved to the right and the car flipped over. The car skidded off the road for about 30 metres, crashing into a carob tree and then an EAC pole, axing both.
Police later announced that the 59-year-old hadn’t been wearing a safety belt and had been hurled out of his car and found 20 metres away from the wreckage.
He and his wife were taken to Limassol General Hospital, where the 59-year-old was diagnosed with multiple fractures on various parts of his body, while his wife was found to be concussed.
Limassol Police are investigating the reasons behind the crash.
