Mixed spices recalled from market

HEALTH Services have a certain make of Russian mixed spices called ‘Seasoning for Hmelli-Sumelli’ withdrawn from the market after the product was found to contain banned food colorants.

After being alerted by the European Union’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed [RASFF], the Services analysed samples from the product in question and found that it contained the substances Sudan 1 and Para Red, which are considered a serious health risk.

The mixed spices, manufactured by Russian company ‘Prof Agro Technika’, come in packaging of 15 grams with a production date of February 2006 and sell-by date of February 2008.

Investigations so far, have indicated that the product is mainly supplied in shops that sell Russian products.

The company responsible for distributing the product has already been notified by the state for its immediate withdrawal from the market.

Furthermore, any members of public who may possess the specific product have been urged to dispose of it at once.

Restaurant, supermarket and hotel owners have also been warned about the product, while the Services have already destroyed all the products they have confiscated so far.
