Stop dumping unwanted cats

Sir,

As one of quite a few feeders of the cats at Tala Monastery, I am writing this letter aimed at the people who have recently “dumped” their unwanted kittens there.  Not only is this a completely selfish act, but has put a big strain on the cats already residing there.
This colony has grown from around 15 to over double, perhaps treble, causing territorial strife on the cats that have been there for some time. Cats have been trapped, neutered and released back, but the “dumpers” have added more strain by perpetuating this ever widening circle, undermining the trappers’ efforts and those of Paphiakos, who have kindly offered this neutering programme, free of charge, due to the generosity of the government who have donated funds for this purpose.

You “dumpers” could have taken your unwanted kittens to the vet yourselves to have them euthanised, which I have done, thereby decreasing the over-burdened colony. After all, how many cats do you think we “feeders” can cope with, our resources are limited also.

I would ask future “dumpers” to be mindful of the above and perhaps get the cats you are feeding neutered, thereby stopping this ‘catch 22’ situation from increasing.
