Cancer clusters and their possible causes

Sir,
I read your article last week about the Lakatamia cancer report.

I hope every possible cause of the rise in prostate cancers etc. in the area will be investigated.

On January 10 last year, The Guardian newspaper in the UK reported “Pesticides may cause prostate cancer, say government advisers.” UK government cancer advisers have said that pesticides, particularly weed killers, might cause prostate cancer and called for better monitoring of their use.

The UK’s Department of Health’s advisory committee has been reviewing reasons for a huge increase in prostate cancer over the past 20 years. Have local fields been liberally sprayed with toxic pesticides? There are other aspects to look into. For instance, are there many mobile phone masts nearby? Some countries won’t allow mobile masts nearer than 500 metres from schools and homes because they give off microwaves.

Are there any waste tips nearby, which can leach toxic chemicals and cause health problems. Are there any waste incinerators or factories which emit cancer-causing dioxins?

Finally, are the population exposed to nuclear radiation? It is known that many blood disorders which can be precursors to leukaemia, are caused by exposure to chemicals & nuclear radiation.
