EC officials here to discuss economy

CENTRAL Bank Governor Christodoulos Christodoulou yesterday met with a delegation of European Commission officials visiting Cyprus to analyse economic developments and review the course of the island’s economy.

According to an official press release, the delegation, headed by Massimo Suardi of the Economic and Financial Affairs Directorate, exchanged views with Christodoulou on various issues, especially those concerning the Central Bank, namely monetary and exchange policies. They also discussed the latest fiscal and inflation developments.

Christodoulou referred to the challenges and prospects for the Cyprus economy which will emerge from the forthcoming introduction of the euro in Cyprus on January 1, 2008.

The officials will also be meeting with Minister of Finance Michael Sarris and other Ministry and Central Bank officials to discuss specialised topics and sectors concerning the whole spectrum of the Cyprus economy.
