Anorthosis face problems ahead of Omonia clash

OMONIA NICOSIA are gearing up for tonight’s clash with what might be an under-strength Anorthosis Famagusta, who may be without key player Louis Fabinio.

The last minute problem arose for Anorthosis when midfielder Fabinio suffered an injury during training, the seriousness of which will determine whether he will be part of the starting line-up or not.

Recovering striker Marian Pahars trained as normal with the Famagusta team and may make the substitutes bench.

Slovak striker Josef Koslej will again fill the role of the team’s sole striker in his first game against Omonia since signing over from the Nicosia team at the beginning of the season.

Former Anorthosis goalkeeper Antonis Georgallides may also be play against his former team tonight, in his first match since recently joining the Greens. However, his participation is not certain as goalie Dimitris Leoni is in great form and may keep his place.

Meanwhile, Omonia coach Ioan Andone will rely on the same 18 players he called up for last week’s match against Aris Limassol, whom the Nicosia team thrashed 5-0.

Andone’s defence will be made up by Daniel Balan, Petros Konnafis, Nelson Tavares Viega and Nicolas Georgiou, while midfielders Kostas Kaiafas, Sinisa Dobrasinovic and Magno Mocelin will lead the way for attacking duo Giorgos Vakouftsis and Musa Mguni.

In other games, Marinos Ouzounides’ APOEL face a less testing match this weekend with second from last AEP Paphos, penalised champions Apollon Limassol entertain Limassol team Aris and AEK Larnaca face Famagusta team Nea Salamina.

Ethnikos Achnas will host Digenis, while party crashers Ayia Napa will play against Enosis Neon Paralimniou.
