Shots fired at Limassol lawyer

LIMASSOL’S Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is investigating the attempted murder of a 37-year-old lawyer on Thursday night.
The intended victim told police he was shot at at around 9.40pm while he was still inside his house.

Limassol CID chief Nicos Sophocleous said: “The victim was shot at from a skylight window while he was coming down the indoor stairs in his home.” Fortunately for the 37-year-old, the gunman missed.

“The assailant’s aim was to kill the victim, but thankfully for some other reasons, he didn’t,” said Sophocleous.

The lawyer reported the incident to police immediately, but by the time they arrived on the scene the assailant had fled. Investigators determined that the shot had been fired from a shotgun, which destroyed the aluminum frame of the skylight.
A 52-year-old Russian man, with whom the lawyer had financial differences, was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Reports said the pair used to work together and that the Russian had frequently threatened his former partner’s life.

“Lately he’d received some threats, and more specifically from the man arrested,” Sophocleous said.

Although the Russian has denied his involvement in the case, a Limassol court granted that he be remanded for eight days
