Road safety event for children

ADULTS and children alike are today invited to spend the afternoon at the police headquarters’ Road Safety Park in Nicosia, in what promises to be a fun and educational outing.

Police spokesman Chrystalla Demetriou said the event had been organised as the climax to this week’s ‘Road Safety from the First Steps’ campaign.
“Hopefully Saturday’s activities will instil road safety messages in children from the beginning,” she said.

The day’s events, which start at 5pm, will include an art competition for children on the theme ‘road safety’. The three top prizes will be awarded £50, £30 and £20, respectively.
Traffic police will also teach children basic road safety rules, using toy cars and bicycles, as well as demonstrate the importance of wearing a backseat seatbelt, and traffic equipment will be displayed, she said.

Bouncy castles, face painting and party food will also be available at the event, which ends at around 8pm.

“We’re hoping to get quite a crowd and it should be a good afternoon outing,” Demetriou said.
