All out brawl in Parlimni after police knock two boys off their moped

TWO teenage boys were injured during the early hours yesterday after a police patrol car collided with their moped in Paralamini, leading to an all out brawl including assaults against police officers, injuries and unlawful damage.

Just after midnight, Paralimni police station received a phone call that on Grivas Digenis Avenue young people were causing a disturbance.

A patrol car arrived on the scene, where its two police officers found around 100 young people, as well a few older individuals, driving motorbikes and mopeds up and down the main street, making a lot of noise.

The police presence on the scene resumed order until the patrol car was called away by the police station to investigate an emergency. Leaving the scene, under circumstances being investigated, the police vehicle collided with the moped carrying the two 14-year-olds.

The youngsters were injured and taken to Paralamni general hospital, where one of them received first aid and was released, while the second was transferred to a private clinic, where he was diagnosed with a fractured leg and admitted for treatment.

Immediately after the accident occurred around 250 youngsters swarmed to the scene, forcing the officers to call for back up. According to police, the youths attacked and hit the two officers and caused damage to three patrol cars.

Ten people have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

Investigations into what happened are ongoing, with more arrests expected.
