Sir,
Allow me to respond to PH’s letter ‘Why people don’t like the British expats’ (August 27).
Wow! Such antipathy against the British requires psychiatric help, marriage counselling or both, I get the impression from his letter that PH is going through a real tough time with his British (expat) wife, how else can you explain such venomous hatred against her countrymen?
Has PH considered that teaching an old dog new trick/s is not always an easy thing to do? Is it really so significant to him that expats learn our language?
I met a Cypriot couple in Manchester recently, I was stunned when told that they had lived in the UK for 20 years, more so when they stubbornly declined to converse with me in Greek, seeing as I wasn’t certain they were speaking English!
PH must think he is an authority on “dodgy business” since he has determined that it is found on a greater scale in the UK than it ever will be in Cyprus, hog wash! He hasn’t got the slightest clue of what he’s talking about, there isn’t a race on this planet superior to ours in this field of expertise.
PH should reserve his opinions for elsewhere, if he totally dislikes the expats that’s bad luck, they’re here to stay until they have a change of heart.
I need not remind PH that some of our top earnings come from British tourism.
Let the Brits be, without them this island would be a very dull place; besides he needs them to constantly remind him that he has a Brit controlling his household, not that he would have it otherwise.
