New airport parking rates as Hermes gets to work on overhaul

PARKING rates at the Larnaca airport are set to change as of Monday, September 11, according to an announcement yesterday by Hermes Airports, the airport’s owner.

The first 20 minutes of parking will become free and the long-term parking rates will be reduced, though there will be an increase in the short-term rates.

Matsakis trial postponed again

THE TRIAL of MEP Marios Matsakis was postponed again yesterday after the State Prosecutor requested time to review the facts of the case.

The prosecutor said the facts of the case, related to illegal possession of antiquities, needed to be reviewed once more after a disagreement on the facts arose with defence lawyer Christos Klerides.

Paphos-Polis highway tenders cancelled

EFFORTS to construct a controversial new 31km Paphos-Polis highway have again stalled after the tenders for the construction of the highway were cancelled, reportedly due to a mistake that was discovered in the tender documents as well as due to the high costs involved.

Temp workers to strike in October

IN LIGHT OF the government’s summer dismissal of dozens of temporary workers, the Co-ordinating Committee of Temporary Workers has unanimously decided to stage an indefinite strike in the middle of October

The roughly 2,500 temporary workers are requesting a freeze on dismissals and the beginning of an intensive dialogue to change their terms of employment.

Bank of Cyprus chairman Rologis resigns

THE Bank of Cyprus said yesterday its chairman Vassilis Rologis had tendered his resignation.

Reasons for the resignation were not immediately clear. The bank said its board of directors would discuss Rologis’s resignation at their next meeting scheduled for September 7.
