POLICE said yesterday that forensic evidence taken from the white van believed to have been used to abduct 20-year-old Janka Kovacova from outside an Ayia Napa hotel over two weeks ago confirmed that the young woman had been inside the vehicle.

Man fined over £1,000 for string of traffic offences

A 24-YEAR-old man from Dhekelia has been fined £1,056 over a series of traffic offences.

According to British Bases spokesman, Captain Crispin Coates, “the Cypriot male was convicted following an operation by Sovereign Base Area (SBA) police officers to arrest him. The operation took place on Waterloo Road in the Dhekelia Garrison Area.”

THE HEALTH Ministry has fined 59 companies over the first six months of 2006 at a total sum of £22,630 for selling food that did not conform to food safety regulations.
The fines, ranging from £20 to £2,000, are the result of inspections that the Health Ministry conducted between March 2003 and April 2006.

A POLICE Constable has been suspended after deciding to celebrate his name day by firing his police-issued pistol into the air in celebration.
