Cocktail of the week with Fabrizio Musorella

Screwdriver

The summer season, along with summer parties, cannot end before talking about vodka, the purist and most universal spirit of all. The name vodka is the diminutive of the Russian word for water, voda. Vodka is a neutral and favourite spirit used as a base for cocktails, mixing well with fruit juices, other spirits and liqueurs. The Russians, the Poles and the Scandinavians all claim that they were the first to distil vodka in the late 14th century or even earlier. This is still in dispute. Below is a classic vodka drink that is said to have been created in the 1950s when an American oil man based in Iran allegedly stirred this recipe with a screwdriver. Salute and keep your tool-box away from the bar cabinet!
Ingredients
5cl vodka
15cl freshly squeezed orange juice
Preparation
Pour the vodka into a highball glass filled with ice. Add the orange juice. Stir and garnish with a slice of orange.
