Health Minister orders probe into girl’s death

THE HEALTH Minister has ordered an investigation into the reasons behind a ten-month-old girl’s death from gastroenteritis at the Makarios Hospital last week, following her parents’ claims that there were no doctors on duty to treat their child.

CY pilots call off strike

CYPRUS Airways (CY) pilots yesterday called off strike action threatened from midnight tomorrow after reaching an agreement to enter negotiations with management.

On Monday, the pilots’ union PASIPY gave over their demands to chairman Lazaros Savvides and the board, and were waiting for a response today.

Hotel staff back compromise deal

HOTEL unions yesterday responded positively to the Labour Ministry’s compromise proposal for the renewal of their collective agreement, following a lengthy national conference held in Larnaca yesterday.

The majority of employees voted in favour of the proposal, while hoteliers are expected to submit their response on Friday, when they have a meeting scheduled.
