Polis police investigate rape claim

POLICE in Polis Chrysochous have arrested two men after a woman claimed she was raped in a nearby village.

The 23-year-old woman from Pelathousa village told police that two men had raped her between 11pm and 1am on Saturday night.

Police immediately launched a manhunt for the two suspects, a 21-year-old from Marathounta village and a 29-year-old from Mesoyi.

They were arrested at around 9pm on Sunday night and brought in for questioning at the police station in Polis Chrysochous, north of Paphos.

Police said the men were likely to be brought before a Paphos Criminal Court for a remand hearing, but it is unclear exactly when.

State Pathologist Eleni Antoniou examined the woman yesterday, stating she did not bear any marks, injuries or bruises to the outside of her body.

Antoniou would not say if the woman had indeed been raped or not.
