A MOTORCYCLIST was seriously injured after being struck down by a car in Nicosia on Monday night. The accident occurred on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue in Latsia when, under circumstances still being investigated, the 25-year-old driver of a car crashed into the motorbike being driven by the 21-year-old. He was rushed to Nicosia General Hospital where doctors ordered that he kept under observation.
Arson attack
LIMASSOL CID suspect arson to be behind the fire that destroyed a car in the early hours of yesterday morning. The car, which belonged to a 46-year-old woman from Limassol, is believed to have been torched while parked outside her house. Police officers found a canister of petrol situated next to the car.
Mother and son injured
A MOTHER and her son were both injured yesterday after the car they were driving crashed into a side barrier in Coral Bay in Paphos on Monday evening. Traffic police in Paphos believe that the woman lost control of the car she was driving and skidded off the road before crashing into the side barrier. Both the 41-year-old mother and her 12-year-old son were injured in the crash and taken to Paphos General Hospital. They both sustained minor injuries.
School vandalism
LIMASSOL CID are on the lookout for culprits that broke into a school and burnt several computers and other equipment late on Monday night. The vandals broke into the secondary school by breaking in through on of the classroom windows before taking two computers from one of the classrooms and setting them on fire in the school courtyard. They also through curtains onto the fire. The culprits then stole two more computers and other equipment from another classroom before making a getaway.
Stolen sheep
FAMAGUSTA District Police are on the lookout for 12 sheep that were stolen some time last weekend. The theft was reported to police by a 34-year-old man who told officers that the sheep that were stolen from his field are worth a total of £890.
Drunk drivers
A TOTAL of seven people were arrested around the island yesterday for driving over the legal alcohol limit. Traffic police arrested two people from Nicosia, two people from Larnaca, two people from the Famagusta district whilst the seventh person arrested in Paphos – who was two times over the legal limit – also did not have a driving licence or insurance.
Jail sentence
A PAPHOS Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a 25-year-old man to six months imprisonment after finding him guilty on several charges of break-ins, theft, forgery and being in possession of counterfeit notes. The man had initially pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Apartment fire
POLICE AND Fire Service Officials believe that a forgotten cigarette, left burning in an ashtray, was the cause of a fire burnt an apartment in Pallouriotissa in Nicosia. The young couple who owned the apartment managed to escape unharmed. Local police have ruled out the possibility of foul play.
