Marcos returns for charity event

TENNIS sensation Marcos Baghdatis has arrived in Cyprus for a series of promotional events.

The 20-year-old, who touched down on Monday night, will take part in a charity football match, with his side taking on Apollon Limassol at the Tsirium stadium on Sunday evening at 7pm.

His agent, Aymeric Ferrier, told the Cyprus Mail that, “all proceeds from the game will be donated to two charities chosen by Marcos: The Cyprus Anti-Cancer Society and the Association of Parents and Friends of Children with Cardiac Disease. Marcos has become a very recognisable face in Cyprus and he wants to give some of his success back to society. This is very important to him.”

People attending the match will be asked to make a small donation to the charities.
Baghdatis’ side, sponsored by his equipment supplier Adidas, will be composed of French professional football players such as Amara Simba, Daniel Bravo, Laurent Fournier and Florian Maurice.

A press conference is scheduled to take place at Le Meridien hotel in Limassol at 10.30am on Sunday morning, when Baghdatis and everybody involved in the match will answer questions.
On Saturday, Baghdatis will be at the Adidas brand store in Limassol (163 Anexartisias Street) where he will meet his fans during an autograph session at midday.

While on the island, he will also be giving a series of television and radio interviews.
After his superb performance at Wimbledon, where he reached the semi-final, the world number 11 was part of the victorious Cyprus Davis Cup team against Egypt in Cairo last weekend. His next tournament appearance will be at the Masters Series in Toronto, Canada on August 7.

“Preparations are going well and Marcos knows what he has to do,” said Ferrier. “He is in good shape.”

It is not yet known how long he will stay in Cyprus for.
