McVities orders product recall

THE PUBLIC Health Services yesterday issued an announcement informing consumers to return two McVities products to their place of purchase after manufacturers had recalled them.

United Biscuits, the UK producer of McVities, recalled its ‘Go Ahead’ biscuits this week after it emerged a wire broke during production.

“There is a possibility traces of a foreign metal could be in the biscuits and as a prevention measure the company decided to withdraw the product from the market,” public health services acting head George Giorgallas said.

The announcement said health inspectors had found two McVities ‘Go Ahead’ products on the market and notified its distributors in Cyprus in writing for the immediate recall of all the specific products from the market.

“Any quantities found in their [the distributors] warehouses have also been confiscated,” the press release said.

The two products concerned are ‘Go Ahead Crispy Slices (forest fruit)’, in boxes of 15 pieces, weighing 218g, with an expiry date of 10.02.2007, and ‘Go Ahead Yogurt Breaks (tropical fruits)’, in boxes of 12 pieces, weighing 216g, with a sell-by date of February 10, 2007.
Because the products are likely to be distributed in Cyprus through another company, the announcement said health inspectors would continue their inspections to located and withdraw all affected products from the market.
