Face the summer

It’s hot out there so make sure you are taking the proper care of your skin

The products you use in the strong heat of summer need to be chosen with care. Hydrating, soothing formulations should be favoured over stimulating, highly-fragranced, fruit or glycolic products, especially on the face. Resist using strong masks, the over zealous use of facial scrubs and certain ‘whitening’ products (particularly if their whitening action is achieved by the skin-thinning effect of ahas such as glycolic acid, citric acid or any ‘sloughing and smoothing’ action). If you need to use a deep-cleansing mask or scrub that has a reviving or stimulating effect on the complexion, do so at the end of the day, when you won’t be going out in the sunshine afterwards. Avoid using creams with high concentrations of essential oils in them when in the sun also.

The use of a sun protection cream on the face every day in the summer is a good idea. If your usually normal to dry skin has become oily and shiny because of the extreme heat, choose a matifying hydrator that will add water to the skin while keeping shine to a minimum.

For minimum shine and maximum hydration try: Matizone Shine Control Moisturiser from Guinot, available from beauty therapists, Skin Drink Matifying Moisture Gel from Givenchy, available at department stores, and Fairness Cream from chemical free skin care brand, Rosveda, available from Facewiz, on 99 548338.

For hydration and protection of all skin types try: Day Wear Plus or Hydra Complete both from Est?e Lauder, or Givenchy Skin Drink Soft or Rich for normal or dry skins respectively. Other hydrators for summer parched skins include Lancaster Revolcanic, Dior Hydraction, Lancome Aqua Fusion and Biotherm Aquasource.

Ideal masks to use this season, for quenching thirsty skin without over stimulation, are: So Moist from Est?e Lauder, Skin Drink Express from Givenchy, or Masque Hydra Beaute from Guinot, (available from 99 548338)

Salon review

New nail place

If you are looking for professional, quick and reasonably priced hand and foot beautifying services, a new nail boutique, aptly named SPOIL ME, has recently opened its doors in Makarios Avenue in Nicosia. This is two floors of foot and finger heaven, offering every nail service you could need, from spa pedicures and manicures to nail enhancements using acrylic, gel or fibreglass and nail art.

For client convenience they also offer waxing, facials and massage using aromatherapy oils. Hygiene is high on their list of priorities, with sterilising units used for metal implements and the very welcome sight of new files, buffers and cuticle sticks given to every client to be taken home after appointments and brought back with them for future appointments.

The shop is a girly delight downstairs, with its pink and white d?cor and their signature flower logo in evidence around the salon. The upstairs of the salon will appeal more to the men as it is more discreet for anyone who doesn’t want their nail service performed in view of passing shoppers.

Special drying machines are dotted around the salon to speed up varnish drying time for customers who have got better things to do than to watch paint drying!

Model teenager?

Here’s a cool idea for any young person in need of a confidence boost or who would simply like some pointers in the art of grooming, deportment or even as a way to learn how to enter the modelling circuit. Summer School courses are to be held by a Modelling and Casting agency called Glamour Management in Limassol.

The course is designed for anyone who would like to boost their confidence or self esteem and not just by those who would like to enter the modelling or film extras industry. If you wish to use the course to help you to get assignments on modelling, promotional or TV advertising jobs, you’ll be shown how to act in a professional manner as well as catwalk and photographic posing skills!

Once you’ve completed your course, you then have the great advantage of having a great agency which has contacts with production companies, magazines and advertising clients.
