Man accused of raping ex-girlfriend

A 22-YEAR-old man from the Larnaca district was yesterday arrested in connection with rape allegations made by his ex-girlfriend, who split up with him six months ago after a six-year relationship.

The man was taken to the Larnaca District Court, which issued his six-day remand.
According to the police, the incident occurred at noon last Monday, in a Larnaca village.

In his testimony, Officer Sotos Zachariou said the man had phoned his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend and verbally abused her, after finding out she had begun a relationship with another person.

The girl told her parents, who urged her to lock the house and report her ex-boyfriend to the police if he approached her.

At around 1pm, the plaintiff saw her ex enter her house through a window, while she was in the backyard quarters where her granddad lives.

The defendant later spotted her and led her into the front room of her house and made her sit on a chair, the court heard.

The suspect then held her by the throat and started groping her as she begged him to stop and tried to push him off. But the suspect pushed her to the floor and raped her, the court heard. The suspect then got dressed and apologised, saying he had done it out of anger.

The girl was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where a coroner found various abrasions on her neck and a head wound.

The 22-year-old was arrested but denied raping his ex-girlfriend, claiming she had invited him to her house.

A further 15 testimonies will be taken.
