New surcharge on CY fares

CYPRUS Airways (CY) yesterday announced the introduction of a new service charge that will add between £10 and £40 to the cost of an air ticket from June 1.

The £10 fee will apply to CY flights to Greece and the Middle East. It will rise to £20 on flights to Europe and the Gulf, and £40 on long-haul destinations such as the US, Canada, Africa, Australia and the Far East.

Cyprus roasts in heat wave

YESTERDAY was the hottest day of the year so far, with inland temperatures “exceeding 36 degrees Celsius,” according to the Meteorological Service.

Weather chief Kyriacos Theofilou yesterday told the Cyprus Mail that, “temperatures are above average for the time of year, which are normally not more than 31 degrees.”

Cypriot air crash investigator sworn in

FORMER Supreme Court Judge Panayiotis Kallis was yesterday officially sworn in as the head of the government-appointed Cypriot Air Crash Committee.

On May 10, the Cabinet approved the appointment of an independent Investigative Committee to determine the causes of last August’s Helios Airways crash, which claimed the lives of all 121 passengers on board.
