Father and daughter accused of beating two women

A FATHER, his daughter and his daughter’s friend were in court yesterday charged with assaulting two women in a frenzied attack last year.

The two victims, Loukia and Irini, took the stand yesterday and told the court the events which led up to the two separate attacks that they had sustained on April 8 last year.
Loukia and Irini are being charged with assault in a separate case brought by the father Andreas, his daughter Thelma and Thelma’s friend Giorgoula.

“About two months before the incident, I met Thelma during a night out at a casino in the occupied areas. We became friends and stayed in contact with each other,” said Loukia.
“But things began to go wrong when I lent her some money which she never paid back. The situation was not helped by the fact that my other friend from Greece, Irini, did not get along with Thelma,” she added.

The situation started spiralling out of control when Irini began receiving threats from Thelma, whom, according to Loukia, she blamed for the collapse of their relationship.
“On the day of the attack, I had received a telephone call from the police in Nicosia informing me that Thelma had filed a complaint against me saying that I was harassing her over money.

“I drove to Nicosia where I met with Irini outside Thelma’s apartment. She wasn’t there so I drove with Irini to the house of Thelma’s father, where we suspected she was.”
Loukia told the court that she wanted to meet Thelma to sort out their differences once and for all.”

But things got ugly when she approached Thelma outside her father’s house. The two women began pushing each other when Thelma started swearing at her and claiming that she was lesbian.

All the women eventually ended up at the police station, where officers attempted to defuse the situation between the three women. But their efforts failed.

A second confrontation followed later that night outside Thelma’s house.
“I saw her father approach me along with Thelma and her friend Giorgoula. All three of them started punching me in the face and kicking me. I ran back to my car and saw all three of them try to pull Irini out of the car. They also started punching her through the car window but we managed to escape,” said Loukia.

Doctors and police have already confirmed that Loukia and Irini sustained injuries to their faces, including bloodied noses and bleeding lips.
All three defendants continuously smiled ironically at each other as both plaintiffs gave their statements.
Her statement was backed up by Irini, who also told the court that Thelma had called up her family back in Rhodes and told them “she was a lesbian and that she was spending all her money on her girlfriend Loukia”.

Waving their rights to lawyers, all three defendants defended themselves with only the father choosing to quiz the plaintiffs during questioning.
He accused the women of lying, adding that it was the two girls that had attacked him, his daughter and his daughter’s friend.
The trial continues.
