Men Three arrestesd after attack on mechanic is attacked

A MECHANIC from Geri was injured yesterday after being attacked by a gang of men angered by the mechanic’s refusal to reimburse them for a cylinder one of the men had purchased.

Three of the alleged attackers appeared at a Nicosia Court and were handed remands in connection with the attack.

According to arresting officer Sergeant Neophytos Georgiou, the attack started took place when the one of the men, aged 18, had gone to the mechanic and asked for a cylinder to attach to his car.

“The mechanic reportedly told the man that he could not reimburse his money should the cylinder be used, to which the man agreed”, said the Sergeant.

The man then paid £400 and left.

But tThings got ugly when the suspect reportedly called back the mechanic and told him that the cylinder was the wrong type for his car and that he wanted his money back. When the mechanic refused, the man got angry and turned up at the mechanic’s garage with around six other people. A row soon followedensued.

He Neophytou said adds, “Tthe man was then attacked by all three of the apprehended suspects as well as by other men who are currently being sought by the police.

“In fact, tThe plaintiff recogniseds the third suspect as the man who had struck him over the head with an iron bar.”

A police officer, called to the scene when the row broke out, was also injured during the attack. The mechanic was taken to Nicosia General Hospital where doctors confirmed that he had sustained injuries to body and head.

Meanwhile, the man who reportedly purchased the cylinder claims that he was provoked into the fight after the mechanic had attacked him first. Doctors also examined the man stating that he too had suffered some injuries.

Judge Angelos David ordered that the second and third suspects be kept in remand for six days and the first suspect be kept in remand for four days.
