Police say only a quarter of burglaries ever solved

ALMOST 75 per cent of all the burglaries which that took place last year went unsolved, according to the latest police statistics.

Out of a total of 2,830 reported burglaries across the island, only 725 were solved, a success rate of 25.6 per cent.

A LEADING Nicosia gynaecologist yesterday lambasted the Health Ministry for failing to secure sufficient quantities of a drug used to stop premature labour in pregnant women.

AN MAN of Arab extraction was yesterday fined £863 for grabbing a Polish woman’s mouth after she had refused to let him kiss her.

The 32-year-old man, who is married and lives in an apartment in Aglantzidja, was initially charged with assault and attempted rape but had the charge of attempted rape dropped by the prosecution after admitting the charge of assault.

Men Three arrestesd after attack on mechanic is attacked

A MECHANIC from Geri was injured yesterday after being attacked by a gang of men angered by the mechanic’s refusal to reimburse them for a cylinder one of the men had purchased.

Three of the alleged attackers appeared at a Nicosia Court and were handed remands in connection with the attack.
