Ken Livingstone insists it’s wrong to advertise the north

LONDON Mayor Ken Livingstone believes that advertising the north’s tourism in the British capital is wrong, a London Turkish newspaper reported yesterday.

Last year, ads for the north were banned from London buses after complaints from Greek Cypriots saying the ads offended them. However, the decision was challenged by the Turkish Cypriots, who were supported by the High Court.

Cyprus could host Hariri murder trial

THE Foreign Ministry said yesterday it had not been asked by the United Nations to host the trial of the suspects accused in the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri.

The Ministry issued a statement in response to reports out of Beirut that Cyprus was one of three options being considered by the UN to host the trial.

Monkey bites off girl’s fingers

AN 11-YEAR-old Russian girl nearly lost two fingers on Wednesday evening after being bitten by a monkey on an Animal Ranch in Mouttayiaka. A similar incident at the same ranch, in April 2000, cost a little Cypriot girl two fingers.
The 11-year-old, who is living in Cyprus permanently with her family, was rushed to a private clinic by Ranch owner Nicos Charalambous.

Cleaning up Nicosia

NICOSIA Municipality has announced plans for its annual clean-up operation, beginning today.

Running until the end of next month, the aim, according to the man in charge of the project, is to “clean up all public places for a better quality of life for all citizens.”
