Enthusiastic response for online road tax

NO MORE bureaucracy and waiting in long queues at the Road Transport Department for the renewal of road tax and a number of other activities, such as the issuing of MOT and car registration, with the Department putting its services onto the internet.

Since it has been introduced, the provision of internet services has already met a very positive response from the public. Between February 20 and February 24, a total of 3,327 people renewed their road tax online.

The Department yesterday presented the new service in the presence of the Communications’ Ministry Permanent Secretary Makis Constantinides.

With the new service, the public can renew their road tax by credit card, change address information, access their car’s details and find out when they are in need of an MOT.

“In a secure environment, the citizen will be able to renew his road tax with the use of his credit card,” said Constantinides, adding that this can be done at any time of the day or night in the comfort of the home or the office.

The system is supervised and maintained by IBM and transactions are carried out in collaboration with the company JCC.

The road tax renewal procedures are simple, explained the head of the service Dr Tasos Pericleous. Applicants can visit the Road transport Department’s website (http//rtd.mcw.gov.cy), click on the title “road tax payment” and the procedure is carried out step by step. The fee is paid by credit card and the documents are sent to the applicant’s home within 24 hours.
