Housemaid stole clothes and jewellery from families

A HOUSEMAID was yesterday found guilty by on two counts of theft from two different families she used to work for.

Pushpa Ranjani from Sri Lanka stood impassively in the dock as Judge Lemonia Kaoutzani ruled she was guilty beyond reasonable doubt of the theft of jewellery and other items from two different families, amounting to a total value of around £1,500.

Price of meat soaring

THE COST of this year’s ‘Tsiknopempti’, the last Thursday before Lent when people traditionally eat grilled meat, has gone up, with lamb having increased in price by 46 per cent over the past 12 months.

In the past week alone, the price of a kilo of lamb has gone up by 50 cents to £6.

Stolen urns were seized from Matsakis’ home

LARNACA CID are on the lookout for two large urns, seized from the home of MEP Marios Matsakis in October 2005, which were stolen from the Larnaca Museum on Thursday.

The two traditional urns (pitharia) have been identified as being among those recently confiscated from Matsakis’ home.
