So much for my road tax rebate…

Sir,
I am 71 years old and have owned my 2,800cc car since 2001. So I was delighted to learn last week that I qualified for a 30 per cent reduction in my Road Tax. It seemed too good to be true and of course it was!

The Department. of Road Transport maintains that I have already been given my age-related discount, because I paid £415 in 2003, which was reduced by 17.3 per cent to £343 in 2004 and this sum has been maintained for 2005 and 2006. Personally I don’t see how this adds up to a 30 per cent reduction for the aged that was supposed to come into effect “this year”.
Perhaps you can throw some light on this, otherwise others who may be delighted just now will have to think again!
