Austrian game show seeks German-speaking Cypriots

AUSTRIAN television is looking for a candidate from Cyprus to take part in a new game show.
Speaking from Austria, Michaela Wailzer, who works for Kiwi TV, who are producing the as yet unnamed show for state broadcaster ORF, said that the idea behind the show is to celebrate Austria’s EU Presidency by making a game show about Europe.

“We are looking for one person from each of the 25 EU member states to participate, so we will have people from many different cultures and countries getting together to talk about Europe and having fun.”

She added that candidates “must be between the ages of 18-30, open-minded, have an interest in Europe and should be able to speak fluent German.”

Filming will take place in May or June, with Wailzer explaining that an added incentive for candidates “is a free three to four day trip to Vienna, not to mention the attractive amount of prize money on offer”.
She explained that the show will be broadcast in Austria and Germany. Cypriot viewers will only be able to watch it on satellite television.

When asked if finding a Cypriot who is fluent in German would be a problem, Stefan Veit, consul of the Austrian Embassy in Nicosia, said the candidate could be a Cypriot living abroad.

“We have sent all the information to the Cyprus Embassy in Vienna, as well as to the Goethe Institute in Nicosia, so I’m sure it won’t be a problem. We just need a Cypriot candidate.”

Interested candidates must apply by February 7 and should include a photograph with their e-mailed application to: [email protected]
