Cypriot identity

Sir,
As a Turkish Cypriot, I am pleasantly surprised by Andreas Koumi’s comments from the Cypriot Academy, London (‘Less talk about Cypriot Hellenism’, January 11).

After all, there is some acknowledgement of one-sided politics, on the other side of the fence. I salute your opinion on Cypriotism.

It is the wish of the President of Greek Cyprus to keep his own people and Turkish Cyprus apart. A man who that was part of EOKA and wanted Enosis will never embrace Cypriotism. He is still a believer of joining Cyprus to Mother Greece, the man who cried while delivering his speech, to get the ‘no’ vote for the Annan plan so he could gain more. He can keep bluffing the world and his own people but for how long more can this possibly go on? The world is learning more how unfair and unjust this president and the Greek Cypriots are.

I have only one sentence to Mr President and his believers: he who does not remember history is doomed to repeat it.
