Hotel owners head for European court

GREEK Cypriot hotel owners will be appealing to the European Court for what they claim is the misuse of their properties in occupied areas.

President of the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (COT) Photis Photiou said that the organisation is currently in talks over the matter with the Foreign Ministry as the majority of hotels that are operating in the occupied areas belong to Greek Cypriots.

“At the moment, 90 per cent of tourist resorts in the occupied areas belong to Greek Cypriots. This is the biggest advantage we have as COT and as the Foreign Ministry to convince tourists not to stay in these hotels because these hotel owners could turn to the European court.”

And this does not go against the EU’s new regulations, says Photiou.

“We are in talks with both the Foreign and Commerce Ministries, we have submitted our opinions.”
