Oil price cut
CONSUMERS yesterday breathed a small sigh of relief as Petrolina announced fuel price cuts at the pump.
Effective today, petrol was set to be slashed by one cent per litre and diesel by 1.5 cents per litre.
Petrolina’s new prices are: 50.2 cents for unleaded 95 octane; 52.2 cents for unleaded 98 octane; and 50.4 cents for (reduced sulphur) diesel.
More oil companies are expected to follow suit.
Still, in anticipation of winter and increased demand, world crude prices are set to rise, after closing at $57.53 on Friday, the lowest mark since July 21.

No to abattoir
RESIDENTS of Pareklissias village in Limassol yesterday closed off the Limassol-Pareklissias road for ten minutes to protest a town planning decision to build an abattoir in the area.
Speaking to reporters, the community leader of Pareklissias Socrates Pavlou said, “The government has completely ignored the community council’s feelings on this matter and has illegally given permission for this slaughterhouse to be built.”
Meanwhile angry Pareklissias resident Chrysilios Nicolaou said, “This abattoir will pollute the water and poison our children. Does the government honestly think that we will just stand by and let this happen?”
The community board also stated that all members would resign and that demonstrations would be intensified if the government doesn’t cancel the plans.
