POLITIS: “Bell sounds for school canteens”. Parents’ Unions, nutritionists, dieticians and pediatricians are warning that what school children are eating from school canteens is not safe, with ingredients that are not approved by the school canteen catalogues are being used. Parents consider the problem as very serious and the Parliament has made it clear that they will not tolerate the use of the wrong ingredients.

ALITHIA: “Scholarship scandal”. Mystery surrounds the way the Ministry of Education is handing out the scholarships of the National Institution of Greek Scholarships. Parents unions are trying to make sense of things but still haven’t had any information. They’re accusing the Ministry of looking out for their own interests.

SIMERINI: “Foreign pharmaceutical companies descend on Cyprus”. Foreign pharmaceutical companies have decided to get rid of their representatives in Cyprus and handle their dealings by themselves. Along with three other companies, MSD have decided that it’s in their best interest to cut short their collaboration with Cypriot dealers.

HARAVGHI: “Anastasiades suggests a VETO”. DISY suggested in a letter sent to the President of the Republic by Nicos Anastassiades, that they exercise the right of a veto in reference to the beginning of discussions involving the admission of Turkey to the EU. The left-wing daily comments that this is something Greek politicians suggested a few years ago.

PHILELEFTHEROS: “British presidency tries to diminish the EU’s role in the Cyprus problem”. London has announced that it will not accept the connection between the Cyprus problem and Turkey’s integration to the EU. Britain, in contrast to Cyprus, considers Europe’s role to be ‘complementary’.

MACHI: “Ssh…the republic is sleeping”. The right wing daily reports on an incident, which took place outside Paphos Airport, in which a taxi driver beat up a man who arrived from Russia on 28 August. Asking to be driven to Pera Chorio Nisou, the man disputed the price of the fare and after threatening to call the police, he instead got a beating and injured and was taken to hospital.
