FRESH clues yesterday suggested a chain of blunders and lapses may have been responsible for the air disaster of August 14, which killed all 121 passengers and crew on board.

Sir,
I take exception to your editorial on Sunday, “What has America become?” Let me remind you that the United States is made up of 50 States, each with its own Governor, National Guard, Laws etc. The Federal Government could not act until it was asked to by the Governors of the States that were devastated by Katrina. 

Hellas Sat back down

THE COMPANY Hellas Sat has finally backed down and asked for its new satellite station to be relocated, away from the residential areas of Sia, Mosphiloti and Alambra.

After a long and intense battle between the company and the area’s residents, Hellas Sat has asked the government to allocate them with a different, more isolated location so they can start building their station.

Cyprus asks Ankara to crack down on asylum seekers

CYPRUS is asking for the co-operation of Ankara in combating the rising problem of illegal immigration.

Interior Minister Andreas Christou has said that Nicosia is requesting the conclusion of an agreement from the EU with Turkey, in which Ankara agrees to eliminate and control the trafficking of immigrants through its territory.

Tourism revenue hits £140 million in July

TOURISM revenue rose to £140 million in July, an increase of 3.7 per cent over the £135 million for the same month last year, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) said yesterday.

The figures released also show that from January to July 2005 total receipts from tourism clocked in at £512.5 million, compared to £505.2 million for the same months in 2004, a 1.5 per cent increase.

Louis links up with easyCruise

CRUISE veterans Louis yesterday announced they had reached an agreement with easyCruise to provide consultancy services for the future expansion of the fledging low-cost line founded by Stelios Haji-Ioannou.
An announcement by Louis said the consultancy was for an initial period of six months during which Louis would also help easyCruise evaluate cruise ships, both second hand and new.

Brother remanded over drug death

THE YOUNGER brother of Petros Tryfonos, the man police suspect was responsible for the drug death of Georgos Charalambous, was yesterday remanded in custody for seven days in connection with the case.
