Panic as Turkish Cypriot airliner forced to make emergency landing

A CYPRUS Turkish Airlines passenger plane leaving Cyprus for London Stansted via Turkey, had to make an emergency landing at Tymbou airport shortly after take-off early on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, one of the airliner’s engines failed when a number of birds were sucked-in during take-off, causing technical problems.

The pilot landed the aircraft safely at Tymbou 30 minutes later. The passengers, who were in a state of panic, considering the recent Helios crash, were then stranded at the airport for another 12 hours before taking off again.

Passengers complained about not being adequately informed of the situation by airline officials.
