Magda lawyer appeals against conviction

MAGDA Eleftheriou, jailed for eight years after being convicted of manslaughter for her role in her husband’s death, has filed an appeal against her conviction.
The 33-year-old’s defence lawyer will submit the reasons behind the appeal after a date for the hearing has been set.

The Attorney-general’s office has filed its own appeal asking for a longer sentence.

According to state radio, the AG believes her sentence is too lenient and should have been life imprisonment on the charge of pre-meditated murder.

Eleftheriou’s lover, Pakistani student Zeeshan Asghar, 22, and his Chinese roommate, Yu Hong Bo, 28, were sentenced to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of murder.

Yu has also filed an appeal for a reduced sentence, with the case now before the Appeals Court.
