Tough as nails

For a latest shine and the chance to sport your loved one on your nails, try out a new laser treatment

IT’S in the genes. Women from all over the world take time looking after themselves and it’s all in the detail, such as getting the nails done. Manicures! Don’t you just love ’em? A girl who says she doesn’t feel a little closer to a celebrity when having neat, smashing nails is lying. The whole experience of someone pampering you is a one in a million feeling. You feel important, you feel mighty, you feel like you should be on Sex and The City.

However, aren’t you completely, utterly tired with the same old colours, the same old patterns week in and week out? How about something different? How about having whatever you feel like on your nails? Want a picture of your other half? Want a pretty psychedelic design? Want a landscape? Yes, I am still talking about nails. The new revolutionary ImagiNail machine is a device that can print any fashion design you can imagine directly onto your nails in seconds. All you do is stick your hand into the machine and the ImagiNail Fashion Printer applies the design.

What is it supposed to do?
It is breaking the normal red and pink nails barrier and bringing to life women’s wildest dreams by allowing them to pick and choose out of thousands of designs for their nails. Before entering the machine, my nails were filed and painted with a white nail varnish, which acts as a canvas. Then, in order for the computer to register where exactly it will start printing, my nails were covered in a special formulated nail varnish called the Receptive Coat. The device is connected to a computer, which has the ImagiNail programme installed. By entering the code of the design you pick, your fingers go into the machine and it starts printing.

What benefits does it claim?
It doesn’t exactly claim any specific benefits although I was impressed. My nails seemed firmer and stronger for days without the slightest sign of chipping. The opportunity to allow an individual to express herself however she sees fit through their nails is amazing. Another really good feature about the ImagiNail is the fact that you’ve got fantastic nails in a matter of 15 minutes, including application time and coating drying time.

Is there any science behind it?
Well, it all started when a dermatologist and a laser physicist put their heads together and came up with a computer that paints fingernails using lasers. But, evidently, laser was going to cost, so they thought about ink. If it was good for paper, why not for nails? Inkjet technology was what made this device available.

What is it like?
It’s a miracle. The fact that I could have a picture of a loved one on my fingernails is difficult to comprehend. Even though I didn’t take a photo with me when I went, I tried a safe approach and went for ladybirds. The detail was amazing and my colleagues found it hard to believe that it wasn’t actually a sticker. The process is easy and comfortable; even though your fingers are trapped down to avoid movement. Basically, it’s like sticking your fingers in a printer. It makes the same sound and goes left and right in the same way. My fingernails looked polished and tidy for nearly a whole week. However, good luck with getting it off as it took me ages of rubbing with a strong nail varnish remover.
