Police officer among four held in steroids case

FOUR men, among them a police officer and two National Guard conscripts, have been detained by Limassol police on suspicion of forging a medical prescription used to obtain around 2,300 anabolic pills.

The case was reported to police by a pharmacist at the old Limassol hospital.
He said that on Monday, just after lunchtime, a young man, who had presented his identity card, gave him a doctor’s prescription with which he secured five packets containing 2,360 anabolic pills.

The pills were imported from abroad.

Their import is only allowed with a doctor’s prescription and in small quantities.
Police found out that the 23-year-old man who got the pills was the brother of an 18-year-old whom the documents listed as the receiver.

The 23-year-old was arrested and questioned by police on Monday.

He named a police officer as the person who forged the documents.

The officer was immediately arrested, but denied any involvement in the case.

He was later suspended from the force pending an investigation into the matter.

Later on in the evening, police arrested the 23-year-old’s brother, who is a conscript.
A second conscript was arrested later on after the authorities got information that he was involved in the case.

The three were held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a felony, forgery, circulating a forged medical prescription and obtaining substances under false pretences.
