Truck turns over on highway

THREE men were injured yesterday after his light truck overturned on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway, blocking traffic for around two hours.

Two of them men, aged 34 and 36-years-old were discharged after being treated, while an 18-year-old was kept for observation.

The accident happened at around 1.50 pm, creating a three-kilometre long traffic jam.

The light truck carrying scaffolding overturned near Latsia, blocking the motorway for two hours.

Though the circumstances of the accident remained sketchy, a driver that was following the truck, said that it had been following a zigzag pattern for some distance.

It then veered into the hard shoulder and the driver, apparently in his attempt to bring it on course, swerved right causing the truck to overturn.

Though it had been suggested that the driver could have fallen asleep, authorities were looking into the possibility of the heavy load causing imbalances.

Police had to call in some heavy equipment to remove the truck and open the road for traffic.
