Feeling good – A space for wellness

Our beauty correspondent tries out a new boutique-style treatment centre
HIGH tech spas and large, multi-staffed beauty centres which incorporate dermatology and even plastic surgery seem to be popping up everywhere. While this concept can be good, I find it all a bit cold and impersonal. Thankfully someone who has their finger on the pulse of what is going on in the industry, as far as concept and New Age quality products and service are concerned, has opened Jeno Space Wellness Lounge. It is small, with emphasis on personal, one-to-one care. This bright, modern, well-stocked shop has a lounge area downstairs and therapy area upstairs, which has a welcoming feel to it and is decorated in subdued warm tones with a Far East influence. Very easy on the senses.

The retail area boasts a selection of top quality, up-market products for face, hair and body. This includes several brands and ranges to suit all skin care needs. One can purchase the world-renowned Karin Herzog face care products, which contain vitamin A as well as their patented Stabilised Oxygen. Also available to purchase or as treatments is the Avancé range, which impressed me greatly with its beautiful, fresh, easily-absorbed textures and treatment serums made of specialised mixes of essential oils blended to target different skin problems or skin ageing. This range has a lot of background knowledge incorporated into its products. Bioline is another highly specialised brand of skin care, which includes different ranges to suit all skin types and needs. One of these ranges is a beautifully rich collection of products containing caviar, retinal and botuline, which targets skin ageing and wrinkles using the latest skin care technology. One can also find here the Kryolan brand of makeup (a range used by many professional makeup artists and actors) as well as makeup brushes, accessories for the bath, quality soaps and the Trind range for nail care and a great brand of hair products from New York called Ecru, used by professional teams for cat-walk hair.

Jeno Space Wellness Lounge is owned by the mother-daughter team of Ismini and Marianna Economidou, who are also the sole distributors of the products they carry. Ismini is a qualified beauty therapist, holding a British diploma. Marianna is her daughter and was so professional and well informed about all the products that I thought she was a therapist as well! Marianna has a masters degree in marketing and public relations and has done all the product knowledge training of the products they use and sell. Ismini performed a mini-facial on me so that I could get a feel for the products and the therapy area. She chose the Avancé range for my skin, a range which manages to fuse breakthrough ingredients, the latest technology and the modern trend of incorporating a more holistic approach to treatments by using the most natural, but effective, of ingredients such as essentials oils, sea minerals and plant extracts. Avancé certainly know their stuff! They even publish their own magazine to keep their customers informed of the latest developments and trends in the beauty market worldwide. I was impressed.

The mini facial was perfect. Ismini was professional, friendly and kept me informed of what she was applying. She made me feel relaxed and calm. I am not the easiest customer to please when it comes to facials or skin products. I can be very demanding and critical, partly because I am naturally pedantic and partly because I have been in the business for such a long time (I also happen to have sensitive and temperamental skin). My skin felt very fresh, zingy, invigorated, and not at all sticky or irritated afterwards. I was quite surprised at how fresh and glowing my face looked considering it was a mini facial. The combination of Ismini’s very experienced hands and her excellent choice in products obviously worked their magic. Ismini makes a point of treating her clients as individuals and gives them personal one-to-one attention and time. She commented that clients should not be rushed in and out of a salon and in Jeno Space a customer can sit down in the lounge area of the shop, have a cup of coffee and discuss individual treatment or product needs with them.

Ismini also trains other therapists wishing to learn about and carry the Karin Herzog, Bioline and Avancé treatments and products.
