People’s choice is a silver Toyota saloon in 2005

THE TOTAL registrations of motor vehicles during the first quarter of 2005 increased by 6.2 per cent to 12,428 in the period from January-March. Registrations for the same period last year were 11,706.

According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, private saloon cars increased to 10,107 from 9,341in January-March 2004, representing an increase of 8.2 per cent. Of these, 3,710 were registered in January 2005. Of the total private saloon cars registered, 4,668 or 46.2 per cent were new and 5,439 or 53.8 per cent were second-hand cars.

Interestingly, silver is by far the most popular colour, with 3554 registrations, compared to 1,723 blue cars, which was the second most popular colour for private saloon cars.

Toyota is the most popular marque with 2,229 registered, ahead of second-placed Honda with 1,820.
Self-drive cars registered in January-March 2005 increased to 449 from 287 in the same period of 2004.
Goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 9.7 per cent to 1,027 in 2005, compared to 1,137 in 2004.

Light goods vehicles – those carrying a net load up to 2.032 kilos – decreased by 6.1 per cent to 815 from 868 in 2004.

Heavy goods vehicles – those carrying a net load over 2.032 kilos – also decreased by 21.2 per cent to 212 in January-March 2005, from 269 in 2004.

Motorcycle registrations decreased by 4.8 per cent to 691 compared to 726 in January-March 2004.
