Bases antenna: ‘All will be revealed soon’

GREEN party deputy Giorgos Perdikis has answered the challenge by the British Bases to produce his evidence that the antenna at the Akrotiri Base is connected to health problems in neighboring villages.

The challenge came as an investigative report commissioned by the Ministry of Health on the antenna was submitted to parliament for review yesterday.

Meanwhile, Perdikis has continued his campaign to see the antenna removed after stating that he has evidence that the health problems in the neighboring villagers are connected to the antenna.

However, a British Bases spokesman said he found Perdikis’ whole attitude deeply disturbing and challenged the Green Party deputy to “produce accurate, conclusive and scientific evidence to back his claim that the bases antennas are connected to the health problems in the Akrotiri village areas.”

He added that the deputy was using the antenna for political gain, saying: “Boosting one’s political popularity by inciting alarm in villagers is deeply disturbing.”

According to the spokesman, the draft report, which was commissioned by the Ministry of Health and which took two years to complete by the University of Bristol, states that there is no connection between the antenna and the health problems in the village.

Countering the statement from the bases, Perdikis welcomed the challenge to produce the evidence, saying everything would be revealed in a couple of days.

“It has been proven by valid studies and research that there is a connection between the health problems in some of the villages and the antennas. There is also evidence of similar antennas causing health problems to residents in other places. The information we have will be released in a couple of days for all to see. As for the statement made by the spokesman about me, I have nothing to say about that.”
