Teenage mother of two dead in drug overdose

A TEENAGE mother of two died from a suspected drug overdose in a Larnaca hotel apartment yesterday, in a mirror-image of the fate of her ex-husband who was found dead in a hotel room last month.

The 19-year-old mother of two children aged two and six was found lying unconscious in the hotel apartment at around midday by a hotel employee who called police and the ambulance service immediately. She was later pronounced dead.
State pathologist Panicos Stavrianos said the victim, Georgia Perdiki, had a long history of drug use, adding that a substance believed to be heroin was found in the room, along with a syringe next to her body.

According to reports, Perdiki had been staying at the hotel apartment since Friday at the expense of the Welfare Department, after being kicked out of her former apartment by her roommate. The apartment owner called the Welfare Services yesterday morning to collect the 19-year-old. When Welfare called to say they were coming, a hotel employee decided to go wake her. At around midday, the chambermaid entered the room, found her lying cold and unconscious, and called the police.

She was reportedly seen asking for a job in a nearby pub on Monday night.
Perdiki was the ex-wife of former convict, 26-year-old Leonidas Demetriou, who was also found dead in a hotel room in Larnaca on February 2, 2005.
